Calls for rebrand on 'Golden Gaytime'

Petitions have been launched causing a commotion about the famous ice cream 'Golden Gaytime' made by Streets.

This idea came from a man who identifies as Brian Mc online and he says that Streets should follow in the footsteps of Coon cheese and sweet Redskins and have a rebrand. Brian's arguments are that the word 'gay' in this modern age is used to describe homosexuality, and that the times have changed and so had the meaning of the word.

Now the word 'gay' can be taken negatively in many situations, such as Brian's example, “If a co-worker in your office walked in and said “they had a gay weekend”, would you assume the definition of gay as being light-hearted and carefree? Or would you feel offended?”.

In an earlier time, the word would have been taking as light-hearted and carefree, but now if someone were to say this, it could be taken in a negative way.

Brian says “I would never say that they are homophobic or that they’re anti gay, but I just think that they should adapt to a modern time, and a modern understanding of what that word would be.”

Some have taken to twitter in response to Brian's petition and given their thoughts on the petitions, some people referring to Brian as "bonkers"

The ice cream brand has expanded this product into different versions including: popcorn, unicorn, birthday cake and more. They have even partnered the famous treat with coco pops, creating a Golden Gaytime Coco Pops cereal. With the brand growing, partnering with other brands and becoming more popular, this could lead to a change in name for the negative backlashed received.
